Ajang Academy Award yang barusan digelar 24 Februari 2019 pagi tadi (waktu Amerika Serikat) memunculkan banyak kejutan. Salah satunya adalah terpilihnya Green Book yang berhasil meraih penghargaan Best Picture, mengalahkan saingan beratnya : Black Panther, Bohemian Rhapsody, A Star Is Born, Roma, Vice, BlacKkKlansman, dan The Favourite.
Sedangkan penghargaan Best Actor jatuh pada Rami Malek berkat aktingnya yang luar biasa sebagai Freddie Mercury di film Bohemian Rhapsody. Dan Olivia Colman berhasil menyihir para penonton - dan juri Academy Award - dengan aktingnya yang gemilang sebagai Queen Anne di film The Favourite (garapan sutradara Yorgos Lanthimos).
Seperti yang sudah diramalkan Elton John beberapa minggu sebelum Ajang Acedemy Award, lagu "Shallow" yang dinyanyikan Lady Gaga dan Bradley Cooper terlilih sebagai Best Original Song. Lagu yang menjadi theme song film A Star is Born ini ditulis oleh Lady Gaga bareng Mark Ronson, Anthony Rossomando, dan Andrew Wyatt.
Untuk tahun ini, film The Favourite dan Roma bersaing ketat menjadi film yang paling banyak meraih nominasi Piala Oscar (10 Nominasi), disusul A Star is Born dan Vice (9 Nominasi) dan Black Panther (8 Nominasi).
Dan film Bohemian Rhapsody menjadi film yang meraih penghargaan Oscar terbanyak (4 penghargaan : Best Actor, Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing, dan Best Film Editing). Disusul oleh Black Panther, Green Book, dan Roma yang masing-masing meraih 3 penghargaan Oscar.
